FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

If proper planning is done in aesthetic nasal surgery, there will be no permanent nasal obstruction after the operation. Moreover, problems such as septum deviation and/or nasal polyp size, which cause obstruction, can be eliminated during surgery to alleviate previous breathing problems. However, if aesthetic intervention diverges from naturalness, breathing problems may occur depending on the shrinking, narrowing, or weakening of the nose wings. It is normal to have occlusion in the early postoperative period, usually dissapears within 10 days.

I generally use tampons when I perform a surgery to the inside of the nose. If there is no problem inside of the nose that requires intervention, I prefer not to put a tampon. I use 'silicone nasal splint' as a tampon. This material is the best product in terms of patient comfort, which is currently preferred by many doctors. Due to its breathing air channels, patients do not experience obstruction caused by tampons after the surgery. I generally remove the splint while I discharge the patient after a day, but sometimes I rather to wait longer if inside of the nose is too deformed.

The nasal splint tampons we use do not stick to the tissue, so they can easily be removed and cause no pain.

After the surgery, there might be some swelling and/or bruises depending on the patient. I observed a slight swelling in the face after my surgeries. Generally, there aren’t any bruises but in some cases patients might have a slight bruising around their eyes. Generally heals in a week.

There are two basic techniques of nose aesthetic, open and closed. Both methods have advantages and disadvantages relative to each other. Since there is no incision on the skin of the nose in a closed technique, there is no visible scar but it is a method I do not prefer because of limited vision and working area. In the open technique, a small incision is made in the middle of the nostrils of the columella. This incision is closed with aesthetic sutures, the incision scar which is visible in the early times is almost completely lost within 2-3 months. In my long-term follow-ups, I can say that I have not had a problem with this in any patient.

From the first day of the operation, there is almost no pain. And the very little pain can be easily stopped with simple painkillers. When I discharge my patients, I usually prescribe them with painkillers in case they need it. Many of my patients reported that they didn't use painkillers when they came back for check up after one week.

The most likely complication after nasal surgery is bleeding. If it happens, it usually happens in the early period but it can be rarely seen in the late period too. In such a case you should inform your doctor. In most cases it heals by itself but there might be some cases which require special attention. There are other risks too, such as the risk of infection and long-term deformities. It is the duty of the doctor to inform the patient in these matters. As with every surgery, there are also risks in nasal aesthetics. Existing of these risks do not mean they will occur. The experience of the doctor, hospital equipment and the patient-doctor communication minimize these risks.

A professional nose surgery wouldn’t cause any deformations. In the early period after the surgery, the nose tip may be slightly raised, which is a planned condition. Within 1-2 months, as the edema diminishes, there will be a slight drop at the tip of the nose and the ideal view will be obtained.

After the nasal aesthetic, swellings reduce more rapidly at first and there is a significant improvement in the first 3 months. In the 6th month, 90% of the healing is completed, but a full recovery can take 1 year. It can take up to 1.5 years to get the shape of the nose tip especially in thick skinned noses.

The thermal plaster placed on the nose is taken in the first week after surgery. If there are stitches need to be taken, they are also taken in the 1st week. Once the plaster is removed, nose can be taped if necessary according to the condition and it gets removed in 5 days.

After rhinoplasty the patient can be discharged after 4-6 hours. I prefer to host my patients one day in the hospital. It is not a necessity but it is better to have someone with you.

You can walk and exercise lightly in a week. You need to wait a month for heavier exercise and fitness. Of course, you need to protect your nose from impact sports.

If there is no medical necessity, I think it is better to wait until 17 for women and 18 for men in terms of nose development and psychological development.

After the surgery, especially in the early stage, you should avoid blowing your nose strongly. The lying position can be on the side or back, but avoid lying on the face. It should take at least 3 months to wear glasses. In the summer months, you have to protect your face with a 50-factor sun cream to avoid possible stains on the nose. It is necessary to protect the nose from impact, but you must not neglect the cleaning and care of the nose skin. A good quality soap and skin cleansing tonic should be used to remove the oil from the nose skin to prevent black spots and acnes. It should not be forgotten that healthier the skin gets, faster the swelling in the nose heals. Skincare can be done, but I suggest to wait 3 months for deeper and traumatic cleanings like peeling.

I do not recommend massage to every patient after nasal aesthetics. In the first month, I do not allow massage for any patient if it is not an exception. First, I wait for the swelling to heal by itself and the sensitivity of the nose to reduce. At the first month check, I teach massage to the patients, especially the patients with thick skin, according to the condition of the nose. I tell them to continue the massage 3-4 times a day for 5 minutes till the 3rd month check. At the third month check, I re-evaluate and either ask them to end the massage or continue for a while.

Drugs that have blood thinning properties such as aspirin, coraspirin, birth control pills should not be used at least 2 weeks prior to surgery. You should also avoid eating red fruit during the operation week.

Depending on the nose structure and the degree of deformity, it takes approximately 2 hours.

After the plaster and bandages have been removed, you can return to your normal daily activities by being careful. If you do not have heavy physical working conditions, you can also return to work after 1 week.

Nasal aesthetics can be done in all seasons, there is no difference in terms of surgical success.

There is no rule in this regard. If the patient feels well, he or she can make a short-haul journey 1-2 days after surgery, but it is better to wait 1 week before traveling by plane.
